Ubiquiti UAP AC Outdoor Review – Transcript
Alexis Argent: Hello and welcome to 4G TV, 4Gon‘s dedicated product review channel. I’m Alexis Argent, the founder of 4Gon and our sister company, VoIPon. Today we’re going to be taking a look at the brand new Ubiquiti UniFi Outdoor AC access point, one of Ubiquiti‘s most hotly anticipated new models. Because the Outdoor AC features dual band technology, it delivers incredible speeds over the 5GHz band as well as supporting the 802.11ac WiFi standard. We’re always pushing to get the hottest products in first, so I’m really pleased to have the Outdoor AC in stock already. Let’s get started!
The UAP Outdoor AC base unit comes with a PoE adapter, power cable, mounting kit and product documentation as you can see here. In terms of the look and feel, the Outdoor AC is very much in line with Ubiquiti’s existing product styling. It has a glossy white finish, round edges and pretty cool looking blue LEDs as well as a smooth plastic top half and robust metal lower section. These models are specifically designed for the outdoors, and even though the AC is considerably larger than the other outdoor access point, it still looks great and is relatively discreet. As you’d expect with a physically larger AP, the increased size of the Outdoor AC means Ubiquiti have been able to fit in some outstanding new technology.
The UniFi Outdoor AC comes with a number of advanced features that make it an excellent choice for outdoor deployments. These include 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac WiFi standards and dual band 3×3 MIMO. This is the really remarkable standout feature of the Outdoor AC; delivering an incredible 1300Mbps at 5GHz even of up to a range of 600ft, as well as 1750Mbps aggregate throughput.
With the Outdoor AC being the first Ubiquiti UniFi outdoor model to feature dual band technology, it is the speed that sets the unit apart. If you’d like to compare more of the specs of the various UAP models, you can do this easily using the product comparison table we’ve created which you can find by clicking the link on screen. Ubiquiti’s other outdoor products include the brand new Outdoor+ featuring innovative multi-lane RF technology in the 2.4GHz band to reduce interference, and the Outdoor5 and Outdoor2 which both feature two external antennas and a secondary ethernet port. The indoor UniFi AC was released earlier in 2013 and was the first access point to feature the ac WiFi standard. The other indoor models include the UniFi AP, UniFi Long Range and UniFi Pro.
After thoroughly reviewing the Ubiquiti UniFi Outdoor AC, we’ve given it a 4Gon rating of 9 out of 10. This is the first product to receive such a high score, but in this case we really feel it is justified. By bringing the ac standard outside, there’s no question Ubiquiti are future proofing their access points. With the capability to deliver speeds of up to 1300Mbps at 5GHz even up to a distance of 600ft, the Outdoor AC is taking outdoor wireless solutions to the next level.
