Ubiquiti UniFi UAP Indoor Scalable WiFi Access Point – 1 Unit Review

Review by Adam Clark Date Added: Monday 24 September, 2012

I ordered this as a test unit after reading up on Ubiquiti and looking at their products. I was a little dubious as it looked a little too good to be true. I must say I have been VERY impressed. The pricing is fantastic to start with, the product itself is very well put together. Great build quality, it looks great, it doesn’t look like an ugly AP with antennas sticking out all over the place so it fits in with the corporate look very well. It was super easy to configure with the UniFi software, I have control over who is suing it and how much bandwidth they can use. I will be looking to use these to deploy later this year when we upgrade our Wi-Fi solution across our sites. The ease of management is whats important to us, and this solution seems rock solid and reliable. Great coverage as well, it really does give you pretty close to the distance it claims. Obviously this depends on the walls etc it has to pass through, but the best I have seen so far for this price range.

We are really happy with the UniFi access point we purchased. It provides enterprise features without the need for having a wireless controler appliance. We only have one AP at the moment but since we have already configured our wireless networks and VLANs rolling out more APs via the Management server Will be really simple.

Ubiquiti UniFi UAP-PRO Review

Review by Gerhard Lazu Date Added: Tuesday 23 October, 2012

Excellent range and amazing throughput. All my wireless MacBook Pros connect at 300Mbps with a MCS index of 15 on the 5Ghz (make sure you explicitly set HT40 for the radio signal). Transfers from the file servers to the clients average 15MB/s and max out at about 20MB/s. That’s almost twice as fast than a 100Mbps wired connection! The interface is so much better than anything I’ve come across, definitely worth the price tag.

What an awesome piece of kit, very powerful and every option under the sun for user management including a HotSpot Manager, very detailed stats, have purchased many more for a remote hotspot as the control software can easily be installed and run on a AWS server.
