Funkwerk’s New Central-Site VPN Gateway Links up to 2500 Locations

Funkwerk Enterprise Communications has unveiled a new central-site VPN gateway, the bintec RXL12500. The new gateway expands FEC’s range of products and solutions to include a central component that provides flexible VPN branch networking. The RXL12500 stands out with class-leading performance. Optional hardware encryption makes speeds as high as 700 Mbps (3DES/AES) attainable.

A license for 100 IPSec tunnels is included with the bintec RXL12500. The license can be upgraded to cover as many 2500 tunnels. The gateway meets demanding requirements for broadband multi-site networking and allows mobile employees to connect securely to their company network over an IPSec VPN connection.

The device comes in a 19″ metal housing with an integrated switch mode power supply and is equipped with 10 Gigabit Ethernet ports (8xRJ45 and 2xSFP). The ports can be independently configured for use in a LAN, WAN, or DMZ, with the SFP ports handling any fibre-optic connections. The optional bintec PSU XL slide-in power supply module equips the bintec RXL12500 with a redundant power supply, making the central-site VPN gateway well-suited for complex environments such as central VPN gateway in corporate headquarters.

VPN networking for today and beyond, IPv6 compatibility

The bintec RXL12500 provides advanced VPN functionality that’s ready for the future of professional networking applications. A wide range of backup options, the bintec Router Redundancy Protocol (BRRP), load balancing, and the OSPF routing protocol together ensure high availability. The integrated IPSec functionality utilizes pre-shared keys and certificates to provide maximum security for corporate networks. Thanks to comprehensive multicast support, the gateway can be used in a wide range of multimedia and streaming scenarios.

The bintec RXL12500 central-site VPN gateway is also IPv6-ready. The Funkwerk Configuration Interface (FCI), a Web-based graphic user interface with configuration assistants, makes configuring the FEC system a straightforward task.

FEC Product Manager Andreas Röck comments, “The bintec RXL12500 was developed for companies with large networks — in addition to performing well, these networks need to be both scalable and reliable. Even if more than 2500 tunnels are required at a central location, we can still do that with an OSPF cluster.”
