An Introduction to the Ubiquiti TOUGHSwitch, EdgeSwitch and UniFi Switch

Introduction

By using just one switch, you can power a number of different devices using PoE. Ubiquiti offer a range of different switch types and models. Available for setups of all sizes, Ubiquiti switches range from powering 5 devices up to 48.

The Ubiquiti TOUGHSwitch is a managed switch designed to deliver Power over Ethernet (PoE) on the 10/100/1000 ports. There are three different models in the TOUGHSwitch range.

The Ubiquiti EdgeSwitch delivers forwarding capacity that simultaneously processes traffic on all ports at line rate without any packet loss. There are four different models in the EdgeSwitch range.

The Ubiquiti UniFi Switch is available with either 24 or 48 RJ45 Gigabit ports. The UniFi Switch delivers robust performance, PoE+ support, and intelligent switching for growing networks. There are also four models in the UniFi Switch range.

Products

Ubiquiti TOUGHSwitch

The TOUGHSwitch range consists of three different models.

TOUGHSwitch PoE

The Ubiquiti TOUGHSwitch PoE is a 5-port Gigabit switch with 24V PoE support for each port. The TOUGHSwitch 5-Port is a cost effective solution, perfectly designed for powering a number of Ubiquiti products including the airMAX, the UniFi, and airVision devices. The TOUGHSwitch 5-port PoE configuration interface and is wall mountable which highly reduces cabling infrastructure.

TOUGHSwitch PoE Pro

The Ubiquiti TOUGHSwitch 8-Port PoE PRO is a cost effective 8-port Gigabit switch with 24V PoE support for each port. The TOUGHSwitch 8-Port can power Ubiquiti airMAX, UniFi, and airVision devices. Gigabit Ethernet performance combined with industrial strength construction and a 150 Watt power supply. The TOUGHSwitch PRO version is capable of powering up to eight 24V or 48V devices with software selectable output voltage control. It is the ideal PoE solution for use with Ubiquiti airMAX base station deployments.

TOUGHSwitch PoE Carrier

The Ubiquiti TOUGHSwitch 16 CARRIER features dual TOUGHSwitch PoE PRO systems in a rack-mountable, 1U form factor with 300 watts of power supporting up to 16 devices. To connect your PoE devices, simply enable PoE in the easy-to-use TOUGHSwitch Configuration Interface. Each port can be individually configured to provide PoE, so both PoE and non-PoE devices can be connected.
