A Quick Look and Review of the Cradlepoint IBR600 4G Router

Cradlepoint, manufacturer of secure wireless connectivity hardware such as the MBR1400 3G Router and IBR650 3G Router have extended their reach, moving into the 4G market. Today we are looking at their 4G offering, the COR IBR600 4G. It is an affordable and feature rich 4G Router with WiFi that provides download speeds of up to 100Mbps.

Key Features

The IBR600 has a number of key features.

  • WiPipe Technology to insure the best use of available bandwidth
  • Persistent 4G Network Connectivity
  • External WiFi and Modem Broadband Antennas
  • Secure IPSec VPN and Remote Management
  • Compact and Rugged for Easy Integration
  • Certified for Hazardous Environments

What’s in the Box?

 Inside the box, there is:

  • 1x IBR600 4G Unit
  • 4x Antennas
  • 1x Mounting Bracket
  • 1x Power Supply with various adapters
  • Quick Start Guide and Additional Documentation

Look and Feel

The first thing we noticed upon opening the box is that the unit is surprisingly small. However, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t have some power inside the tiny form factor casing. With the top face of the unit being textured and the sides being rounded, sets this apart from the other 4G routers we have looked at. It looks very stylish, yet unimposing.  The ports are all found on the sides, with antenna connectors on each corner.

The image below shows the small panel which slides to the side to reveal the SIMcard slot.

How does this compare?

There are a number of 4G Router options on the market along with Cradlepoint’s offering. NetComm Wireless have the 4G100W and 2N have the SpeedRoute LTE. There are also products from Patton, LANCOM, E-Lins and Topex to name but a few. If you are interested in 4G routers and would like to find out more about feature availability and differences between products, please see out comparison guide below.

Cradlepoint also offer the IBR600 3G Router as an alternative to the 4G version. 3G Routers are still popular despite the rise of 4G technology. Manufacturers such as Teltonika, Sierra Wireless and Geneko to name but a few, offer high quality products to this market.

The Bottom Line

The Cradlepoint IBR600 4G Router is affordable, rich in features and is perfect for businesses requiring secure, 24/7 connectivity. It’s compact, sleek metal case, mounting bracket and external antennas make it ideal for industrial applications.
